I've spent the last seven years learning how to self-publish when I decided that being told what my cover design would look like, told what my pricing structure would be, told what I couldn't do to promote my books... and told - by a literary agent who's never written a book herself - that literary agents are the gatekeepers of the publishing industry; there to ensure only the best books get published.
So what about all those traditionally published books we have read and afterwards said, 'that was terrible!'?
Or all those self-published 'Indie' books we've read and afterwards said, 'that was amazing - why on earth hasn't some publisher picked that one up?'
Seven years, 12 books and two Indie Awards on, I now know that it's the readers who are the gatekeepers and if you have the will, skill and talent, to write, then write your books, self-publish and (don't) be damned whilst the agents trudge through their slush piles and miss the best Indie reads out there! Write, Publish, Promote is the sum of everything I've learnt - so far - so grab your copy and get your books out there!
