Editing and Beta Reading:
One of the most important factors in the success of any self-published book is how professional it looks. That means thorough editing and a slick finish. I offer an editing service to enable this:
Beta Reading
- cost £400 for up to 50,000 words, thereafter £9 per additional 1000 words.
(*Over 100,000 words £10 per additional 1000 words above 100,000 words due to length and complexity factors).
Structural editing
- cost £550 for up to 50,000 words, thereafter £12* per additional 1000 words.
(*Over 100,000 words: £13 per additional 1000 words above 100,000 words due to length and complexity factors).
Copy editing
- cost £475 for up to 50,000 words (if your work has already undergone a structural edit), thereafter £11* per additional 1000 words.
(Over 100,000 words: £12 per additional 1000 words due to length and complexity factors.
N.B. If your work has not undergone any editing prior to sending it for copy editing, the basic cost per 1000 words will be £14 as I will also need to consider any structural editing issues that may occur.

for industry standard rates. Mine are considerably less only because being an author myself, I understand how prohibitive editing costs can be for indies.
To illustrate, the time it takes to structurally edit a 100K word book is iro 4-5 days, plus a further day to write the resulting report/ feedback (mine usually run to at least 15 pages, often twice that as they will include suggestions how to refine and revise, as well as information on useful writing techniques etc). At ciep rates this would cost £1700+. My charge would be £1150).
1:1 Mentoring
I offer half or one day mentoring sessions if you require specific guidance for your self-publishing project. The cost is:
Half day (10.00 to 12.30) £150
Full day (10.00 to 12.30/not incl. lunch/13.30 to 15.30) £250
This can cover anything you require from editing and feedback, formatting, cover design, blurb writing, creation of your author platform and setting up your first promotional campaign.
All mentoring sessions will include a complimentary copy of Write, Publish, Promote
and will take place in Hermitage, Berkshire. If I am travelling to your location, please note that I will add on a mileage charge of 45p per mile, travel time at a pro rata rate, plus overnight costs if appropriate
